Hyperpigmentation is caused by excess melanin production. This can be triggered by skin conditions like acne and eczema. It can also occur after injury to the skin and sun exposure. Medications and hormonal changes can also cause hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation can develop on any part of the body. Microneedling is an effective treatment for it since studies have shown that it successfully treats hyperpigmentation and it can be done on any part of the body.

What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a procedure which uses a device with micro-needles that makes micro-punctures in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process which is followed by the production of collagen and elastin.
The healing process also encourages the removal of damaged skin cells and the production of new, healthy cells and this contributes to the fading of the hyperpigmented areas over time.
Microneedling for Hyperpigmentation Treatment Procedure
The procedure begins with applying numbing cream to numb the area.
Blood is then drawn from the person and spun in a centrifuge to obtain PRP. PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and it contains growth factors which further boost the production of collagen and new cells.
Once the numbing takes effect, the area is cleaned and microneedling begins with the device.
The microneedling device is moved over the affected area several times and PRP is applied.
The whole procedure takes about 1 hour and is followed by minimal downtime.
