What Is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a procedure which uses a device with micro-needles that makes micro-punctures in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process which is followed by a proliferation stage in which collagen and elastin are produced.
The final stage is the remodeling stage in which the new tissue matures in the scar area resulting in smoother and firmer skin with less visible scars.
These results begin to be apparent after 3 to 4 sessions and the full effects are seen several months after the final microneedling session because it takes time to build new collagen.
Studies have shown that microneedling is effective treatment for atrophic post acne scars. Other studies have proven that microneedling is effective treatment for scars on the face and other parts of the body caused by acne, surgery and trauma.
Microneedling for Scars Treatment Procedure
The procedure begins with applying numbing cream to numb the area.
Blood is then drawn from the person and spun in a centrifuge to obtain PRP. PRP stands for platelet rich plasma and it contains growth factors which further boost collagen production.
Once the numbing takes effect, the area is cleaned and microneedling begins with the device.
The microneedling device is moved over the affected area several times and PRP is applied.
The whole procedure takes about 1 hour and is followed by minimal downtime.

1.Do not apply makeup for 24 hours after treatment
2.Do not engage in activities that cause perspiration like exercising for 3 days after treatment
3.Avoid direct sun exposure for atleast 2 weeks after treatment.
4.Use a sunscreen with SPF 50 when out in the sun.
Side Effects
Side effects of microneedling are generally minimal and include skin redness and discomfort.

*Persons who have keloid scars
*Persons who have used Isotretinoin (Accutane) in the past 1 month
*Persons who have had radiotherapy in the past year
*Women who are pregnant
