




Podosal paint is used for wart treatment in Nairobi Kenya. It is a prescription medication manufactured by Biodeal Laboratories for the treatment of genital warts or condylomata acuminata.

Composition
It is a liquid which contains 20% podophyllum resin in benzoin tincture.
Podosal Paint Indications
It contains podophyllum and this study found that podophyllum was effective for treatment of anogenital warts and plantar warts.
Podosal paint is used to treat warts around the genital and anal region (external anogenital warts) and common warts.

Podosal Paint Dose
0.4-0.5ml of the paint is applied to the genital wart and left there for between 4-6 hours and then removed by washing it with soap and water. It is reapplied weekly for up to 6 weeks.


Podosal Paint Side Effects
Side effects of podophyllum paint include pain, redness and swelling of the skin. There may also be itching or burning sensations as well as ulceration. Allergic contact dermatitis may also develop.
If the medication is absorbed by the body in large amounts it may result in abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, irritability, nervousness, confusion, hallucinations, convulsions, unusual bleeding (nose bleeding, bleeding gums) or bruising, little or no urination, chest pain, pounding heart beat, shortness of breath, muscle weakness, numbness and weakness of the hands and feet.
Podosal Paint Precautions
Do not apply it if you are allergic to podophyllum.
It is not recommended for use in children aged less than 12 years because it has been associated with neurotoxicity and myelotoxicity.
It should not be used inside the rectum, vagina, cervix, urethra or mouth.
Do not take alcohol before application and for several hours after application.
Do not administer general anesthesia or drugs which depress the central nervous system during application.
A test application should be done during which the medication is left on for 1 hour. If there is no irritation, it can then be left on for 4-6 hours.
If skin irritation develops when using it, stop using it and wash the area.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to podophyllum.
It should not be used by persons with diabetes, circulation problems, those taking steroid medications and pregnant or breastfeeding women.
It should not be used on bleeding warts, warts with hair growing from them, moles and birthmarks.

Do not apply it on the skin together with other medications or skincare products.

Podophyllum is pregnancy category X
