*Vitamin C increases iron absorption from the diet. This is a problem for people who have a lot of iron in their body like those with hemochromatosis.
*Vitamin C can increase the risk of getting kidney stones especially in persons who have had kidney stones in the past.
*High doses of vitamin C can cause kidney damage in persons with kidney disease.
*Individuals with G6PD deficiency should not get high doses of vitamin C as it can cause hemolytic anemia.
*Vitamin C can make the urine more acidic and this can change how the body removes some medications from the body. This can makes the medications less effective or it can increase their side effects. Medications that are affected by vitamin C include fluphenazine (Prolixin), magnesium salicylate (Novasal), mexiletine (Mexitil), salsalate.
*Vitamin C is also suspected of making radiation therapy and some chemotherapy medications less effective. Though this is controversial.
